Dear Nadra,
The outstanding character of the 3DSUG conference is the unique atmosphere it creates for attendees to learn about their 3D Systems equipment and interact with other professionals in their industry. Following this theme, I intend to bring back a very popular and noteworthy session at the conference, the WISH LIST. I ask that you start making notes about what you'd like your 3D Systems equipment to do in software, hardware and materials. This session enables our users to witness the potential prowess of our technology if unleashed and also informs us of the existing possibilities of the equipment. A final copy of the WISH LIST will be summarized, voted on by the users and submitted to 3D Systems.
3DSUG is For Users and is run By Users; As we continue plans for the 2008 conference, please feel free to contact me for your ideas and suggestions to make your conference a successful one!

|

The Albert Hammond 1972 hit song "It Never Rains in Southern California" says it all. The 2008 3DSUG Conference and Exposition will take place at the Orange County/Costa Mesa Hilton Hotel in Costa Mesa, California. April is a great month for weather in Southern California with an average temperature high of 66 degrees and an average low of 54 degrees with less than 0.70" of rain making April 6th driest month.
The Hilton Orange County / Costa Mesa hotel is centrally located to all major points of interest in Orange County and Southern California. It offers convenient access to all major freeways, Orange County / John Wayne Airport and the world-renowned South Coast Plaza shopping resort. The Hilton Orange County / Costa Mesa hotel features the highly acclaimed Bristol Palms Restaurant and bar set amidst towering palm trees in the hotels naturally lit 7-story atrium. The Hilton Orange County /Costa Mesa hotel is 100% smoke free.
The Hilton Orange County / Costa Mesa hotel is only minutes away from Disney Land, Balboa Fun Zone, Santa Ana Zoo, Knott's Berry Farm, Golf and chartered deep sea fishing to name a few things you can do in your spare time. Once the conference begins their will not be a lot of spare time so arrive early. The $125.00 per room night is available three days prior to the conference and three days post conference so you will have plenty of time to enjoy what Southern California has to offer.
See you in sunny California April 6-10, 2008! Thomas A. Sorovetz, Site Coordinator, 3DSUG, Inc. |

What Our Members Are Saying About 3DSUG |
|
"I had a great time at the conference. It was well worth it for the knowledge and networking. I had such a great time, I felt like I was on vacation. While this is my first experience at the 3DSUG Conference, I feel like you really did a great job this year!" ~ Tone Scheetz, Morris Technologies, Inc.
"In my opinion, the best sessions for SLS were the open discussion forums. There was a lot of good discussion and interaction between the moderators and the audience. Also, the networking is always a huge benefit of attending the conference!" ~ Kent Firestone, Solid Concepts
"This was my first users meeting and I just wanted to say thanks to you and the guys for a job well done. I learned a ton and made some great contacts. Everything from the food to all of the events, was well done and it was a pleasure to attend the conference. My only recommendation is that next year we offer a survey of the lectures that people are interested in and then we can try to make sure that the most popular seminars aren't running at the same time." ~ John Mastoloni, M2 Systems
Just a quick note to thank you and all the team of the 3DSUG for a great conference. I found it very beneficial and thought the organizational side was excellent, well done." ~ Tom Walls, Laser Prototypes (Europe) Ltd. |
| Materialise Innovation Forum
Report by Bob Zubrickie |
As an attendee and a presenter at the Materialise Innovation Forum,, I was impressed with the successful turnout for their conference. This conference ran September 12th and 13th in Leuven, Belgium. There were two concurrent secessions: Rapid Implant Manufacturing Form and Magics International Summit. Both were packed with case studies utilizing the Materialise products as well as helpful tips on how their product is used to help benefit the attendees. As an advocate user of Magics, I utilize the support generating module for 99% of my programming for my Stereolithography processes. My presentation was on Support Factors of Producing Rapid Prototype Connectors at Tyco Electronics. Other secessions included Support Generation for Difficult Geometries by Les Nielsen (Moeller Design), The Rapid X Industry and the Role of Magics by Neil Hopkins (Loughborough University), Problem Solving with Magics in Medical Applications by Richard Bibb (PDR), The Use of Rapid Prototyping in the Architectural Design by Bradly Peters (Foster + Partner) and it goes on and on. Each and every presentation was packed with educational experiences and upscale experiences.
At the conclusion of the conferences we were bussed to Materialise headquarters where Wilfried Vancraen, Materialise founder, escorted us through a guided tour of the company's production floor. There were no cameras allowed, but they showed us everything. It was an amazing tour. The facility cleanliness, which I have total envy for, was impressive.
This was Materialise's first attempt at this conference, and I would say they are off to a good start. If Materialise continues to have future conferences like this one, I would highly recommend attending.
Materialise is a sponsor of the 3DSUG. Huntsman and DSM Somos are also sponsors of the 3DSUG and were vendors at the Materialise Innovation Forum.
