A Word from the Chair

Greetings from Pennsylvania, I hope everyone is preparing for a great holiday season.

I am please to announce that Mr. Todd Grimm from T.A. Grimm and Associates will be our keynote speaker and help kickoff the 2010 3DSUG Conference. As many of you know, Todd has been in the RP industry for many years holding various roles in the service bureau arena including a Directors level at ATI. If you have ever heard Todd speak, you know he is very passionate, emotional, and energetic in delivering his presentation. With his overall knowledge in RP, and Reverse Engineering Todd will not only enlighten us but will also ignite everyone's energies so that you get the most out of the 2010 3DSUG Conference.

We are about five months from the starting of the 2010 3DSUG in Santa Fe, NM. As Chairman, I am soliciting everyone's help to make this the best Conference to date. I need everyone to help find new Users and convince them to attend as well as contacting Users who have not attended in a few years. Our group should be 400 strong in attendance, and we can make it a reality if everyone puts fourth a little effort to find new and old attendees.

I also need your help in increasing the number of vendors for our Sunday night and Monday Night vendor fair. The ballroom is large enough for over sixty 8x10' booths, and I would like to have each booth filled. The cost for a booth for both nights is $600. That is extremely cheap as trade show pricing. Most trade shows charge over $25 per square foot, which means a 8x10' booth would cost at least $2000 plus electrical and set-up charges. I know we have a great organization, and that everyone is willing to step up to the plate and help me out, and I can assure I truly appreciate you help and efforts.

As you see below, I am also sending out a "Call for Speakers." If you would like to present or know of someone who is willing to present please contact me at chairperson@3dsug.org. To make this the best Conference to date, we need to get quality presentation that will help educate and encourage other Users.

The E-Board is in the process of planning the 2010 Conference, so if you have any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions please contact me by e-mail or by phone at (215) 757-9611. We are planning to offer more "hands on" training sessions but we are looking to you the User for guidance, so please send me your suggestions as soon as possible!

The Sorovetz Report

Well let the count down clock begin. With only five months before the start of the Conference, there is still so much to do. To continue to make this a world-class conference, I am asking for everyone's help in soliciting attendees, vendors, and sponsors. Without increasing these three critical areas, we will not be able to continue to thrive. We need to continue to pound the pavement to find new users and new vendors. This does not mean we can forget about the participates from the past who were no shows, on contra, we need to bring those users back, as well as continue to find new users, vendors, and sponsors. So please do not wait to see if someone else will make that phone call, or e-mail, to a possible user, vendor, or sponsor. Be pro-active and make that move today, we all need to take responsibility. Remember, this is a user group that is "For Users, By Users."

Derek Ellis (Met-L-Flo) and Sheku Kamara (MSOE) are working very hard on putting together various hands on breakout session focused on reverse engineering, metrology, and inspection. Derek and Sheku are not only working with the hardware suppliers but also with the software supplies and service bureaus who offer these services. Derek is also interested in having a hands on breakout session on creating silicone tooling for multiple part creation. If anyone is interested in these breakouts please contact Derek, Sheku, or Luis Folgar, and let them know. If you need them to add, additional information to their program now is the time to speak up.

Kevin Ayers (FBI) and Derek Ellis are also working on either a fly-fishing trip or white water rafting for those who are able to come to Santa Fe early. Please contact Kevin and Derek if you are interested. There is a lot of logistics such as transportation, licenses (for fishing) rafting guides, and food just to name a few that goes into a successful outing so please help them out by letting them know your interest. For those whose spouses will be joining them, I am still interested in setting up a cooking class in downtown Santa Fe for them if I get enough interest so please let me know. IF you are interested in participating however you do not know if you are able to attend until next year, please let Derek and Kevin now anyway so that they at least have an idea of how many people are interested and if they should continue to pursue these events.

Well that is it for now, and as you see there is still plenty to do and any help, thoughts, suggestions, or ideas are greatly appreciated.

See you in Santa Fe!

Treasurer's Report

I realize at this point in time it is difficult for most of you to say whether or not you will be able to attend the 2010 conference, and yet, I continue to email you conference updates.

These emails are automatically generated through Cvent. All you need to do is delete them from your inbox until you are certain you'll be able to attend. In the meantime, I will keep sending you gentle reminders.

Should you answer "NO" and decide to attend the 2010 conference at a later date, you can always register through the Users Group website at www.3dsug.org

IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Please read to ensure you register correctly.
  1. Conference Attendees qualify to be attendees if they own or work for a company that owns 3D Systems equipment. These individuals can register as a conference attendee and get all the benefits of the conference including admission to the Awards Night Banquet, daily luncheons and evening receptions. This is the reason we asked and required the questions on equipment. Don't forget to indicate the number of years you have worked with equipment as this allows us to designate Dino Award winners. You must attend the conference to qualify for this award.
  2. Vendor Fair registration is for individuals who want to promote their products or services to conference attendees. This registration is required for any exhibiting organizations who want to have additional associates working the booth. SPONSORSHIP ALONE does not qualify for additional associate registrations. Sponsorship levels greater than $10,000 qualifies for an included comp vendor table registration. Vendor registration is per table and 8x10 spaces, not for space only. If a vendor wants two tables the early registration fee is $600 each or $1200 for the two tables and so on.
  3. Additional Associates can only be registered once a vendor registration is made by one of the individuals in the organization. The maximum number of additional associates who can be registered is three. Please keep the maximum of additional associates you register to three (plus the original vendor registration for a total of four). Again sponsorship alone does not qualify to add associates -- you must be an exhibitor.
  4. Sponsorship Have two ways of registering. One is for sponsorship only and you must enter the amount under optional items. The second can be part of an attendee or vendor registration. You can register as a vendor or attendee in the top section and enter an amount in the optional item section below. This allows sponsors to register for special events held for vendors and attendees.
  5. Award Night is for vendors, spouses or significant others who would like to attend the Tuesday evening award banquet. Admission for Award Night is included in conference attendee registration; however sponsors and exhibitors need to register separately.
  6. Daily Luncheon is an opportunity for the vendors to socialize with the attendees. The vendors must pay the prevailing price to attend these luncheons. All registered conference attendee registered under conference attendee are included in all meals during the conference and need not register separately for these.
These are the basic guidelines -- I know they can be confusing due to the many options available. Please read all information carefully. I review all registrations and notify individuals of errors. I will make two attempts to contact and correct; however, if I am unable to review corrections with you, your registration will be cancelled and you will need to register again correctly. Also, your registration is not complete until your payment is received, if you are not paying with credit card, send check payments payable to 3DSUG, Inc. to the following address:
