| A Word from the Chair
Become a 3DSUG Volunteer in 2009 |
As we come to the end of the year, I look back and realize things are sure changing in the world. We have a lot of economic troubles that many of us are experiencing, but so many new opportunities and new technologies shaping our future. I really believe that these technologies includes those we use in our industry everyday. Additive Technologies have so many advantages over traditional techniques like Subtractive Methods. Not only can you "print" from 3D CAD data, you can create geometries in one piece that no other process can reproduce. We will see our industry change quickly in the near future as companies look to Additive Manufacturing techniques to reduce costs, improve design freedom, and reduce time to market.
The 3DSUG has been an organizing run By Users, For Users for over 20 years. We are in a leadership position to help shape our industry and the technologies that will drive the market in the future. Are you ready to help shape our industry? The 3DSUG needs new people every year to help run our organization. It's a lot of work, but very challenging and rewarding. We need you! I will move on after this year's conference and one of our Vice Chairpersons will step into my place. That means we will need session Moderators as well as people to become a Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, or even the Site-Coordinator although Tom Sorovetz has a vice grip on that one! If you want to shape our future, I ask you to take time and volunteer for our organization. If you are interested, please email me your name and the position you would like to run for. I want to have volunteers identified before we start our 2009 Conference in Daytona, FL so we can let everyone know about the candidates ahead of time.
On that note of giving back to your community, I want to wish everyone a very Happy Holidays and New Year. Be safe in your travels and I look forward to seeing everyone at next year's 3DS Users Group Conference.

| The Sorovetz Report
Daytona Beach March 15-19, 2008: Save the Date! |

Wow where has the year gone? Christmas is just around the corner and the Conference is closing in on 90 Days until zero hour. The 2009 Conference has a lot to offer and I am hoping everyone can make it. Just to recap from last months Newsletter, I am asking that everyone help bring one new attendee, vendor, and sponsorship if possible. This Conference is "For the Users by the Users" so it is in the best interest of ALL of the members at large whether you are able to go or not, to help and promote the Conference. I know the economy is not that great, and most companies are tightening there budgets by reducing costs (travel being one of them). When speaking to your Management, please emphasize the training aspect of the Conference. Most companies have a separate line item in the budget for training and education. If anyone requires a Letter of Invitation to attend, please contact Brian Bauman, I am sure he would be more than happy to send you one. If anyone's Management is vacillating on whether to send you or not, feel free to have your Management contact me, and I would discuss with them in-depth, the benefits of attending. As a constant reminder, the Awards Banquet may be an inside or outside venue, so please dress appropriately.

Powder Coating & Silk Screening
Now Available In-House |
Stand-alone silk screening service from an ITAR registered company. We will silk screen parts you manufacture. Machine shops, sheet metal shops, and contract manufacturers producing defense articles such as machined parts, sheet metal parts and fabrications, plastic panels and other manufactured parts often require silk screening applied to the parts they are buying or producing. The defense article, per ITAR regulations, must be silk screened by an ITAR registered company. Rapid Sheet Metal is an ITAR registered silk screening company that provides single or multi colored silk screening. Rapid Sheet Metal manufactures all screens in-house. Standard lead-time for Rapid Sheet Metal to turn around silk screening is only two business days after receipt of parts (add two days for creation of screen unless parts are being powder coated in parallel). Their ultra fast service ensures that companies requiring silk screening from ITAR registered suppliers get the same quick service that commercial customers enjoy. Rapid Sheet Metal also offers rapid ITAR powder coating of parts. For more information, visit: www.rapidsheetmetal.com. |

DSM Somos Introduces TetraShell
Software to Produce Reduced-Density Stereolithography Parts |
|
DSM Somos®, a world leader in the development of advanced stereolithography (SL) materials for rapid prototyping and manufacturing, has announced that it will introduce a new software application allowing SL users to create light-weight prototypes having enhanced structural integrity.
Based on patented technology from the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), TetraShell™ hollow build software will use MSOE's TetraLattice* technology to facilitate the manufacture of hollow stereolithography parts with variable skin thicknesses, supported by a patented and proprietary TetraLattice™ support structure. Potential application areas include investment casting patterns, reduced- density metal clad composite structures and light-weight large, thick-sectioned parts.

Huntsman Wins EuroMold Award
New Araldite® Digitalis Micro Light Build System Wins Prestigious EuroMold Award |
The first ever machine built by Huntsman Advanced Materials division won the attention of the jury by introducing a groundbreaking new technology in the field of rapid prototyping and rapid manufacturing.
The core development is the new curing system that is based on conventional light compared to laser curing systems already on the market. Superior to the laser technique in many ways, the patented MLS MicrolightSwitch system allows for a rapid and simultaneous production of different highly complex parts in a previously unattainable accuracy. The exposure bar of Araldite® Digitalis steers thousands of Microlight Shutters enabling an accurate and simultaneous curing process.
